JEE Main photograph and signature at a glance
JEE Main is conducted by the National Testing Agency, and the application collects a recent photograph and your signature in JPG or JPEG. Guides quote the photograph as 10 to 200 KB and the signature as 4 to 30 KB, although some pages list a wider range of 10 to 100 KB for the signature. No fixed pixel size is given, so the pixel values below are our own defaults.
| Document | File size | Dimensions | What it should show |
|---|---|---|---|
| Photograph | 10 to 200 KB | 350 × 450 px | A recent colour passport-size photo |
| Signature | 10 to 30 KB | 300 × 120 px | Your own signature in dark ink on white paper |
The signature starts at 10 to 30 KB so the file passes under either version of the rule. Always compare with your own information bulletin, and edit the numbers in Customise if it says otherwise.
Which JEE Main candidates can use this tool
The same two images are used for Paper 1 (B.E. and B.Tech) and for Paper 2 (B.Arch and B.Planning), and they are reused if you apply for both sessions of the exam. A candidate who also applies for other NTA exams can use the same pair of files with small changes.
Compressing your files from start to finish
- Photograph. Upload a clear portrait and centre your face in the crop frame.
- Check the chips. Wait for size and dimensions to turn green, then download.
- Signature. Switch tabs, upload a photo of your signature on white paper and crop tightly around the ink.
- Save both. The ZIP button keeps the pair together.
Getting the JEE Main photograph right
NTA asks for a recent colour passport-size picture on a white background, with at least 80 per cent of the face visible including the ears. Stand in front of a plain white wall facing a window and look straight at the lens.
- No masks, caps or dark glasses.
- No heavy filters. The picture is matched to you at the centre.
- Keep spare copies. You may need the same picture for counselling.
- White backdrop. Use the background remover to fix a coloured wall.
Making a clean signature image
Use a dark pen on plain white paper and sign as you do on your school records. Photograph the page flat, from straight above in good light, and crop close around the ink. Leave ink clean-up on, because the signature limit is small and a white background compresses far better.
Details that save a second attempt
- Keep the same photograph for the admit card, the exam centre and later counselling.
- The NTA may offer a correction window for some details. Do not rely on it for images.
- If the portal rejects a file, change the target KB by a few points and download again.
Common reasons JEE Main uploads fail
- The file is outside the KB range.
- The picture was stretched rather than cropped to shape.
- The photograph is blurred, dark, or has the ears hidden.
- The signature is faint, on lined paper or not your own.
- The file is not a real JPEG.
Staying private while you prepare files
Everything is processed on your device, so your photograph and signature are never sent to our servers. When a file is ready you can download it, save both in a ZIP, or use Share to pass the image and a link to this page to another phone. Delete shared copies from chats afterwards.
