Basics

Why turn images into a PDF

Many forms, banks and offices ask for documents as one PDF instead of a pile of pictures. A single file is easier to upload, keeps your pages in the order you chose, and opens the same way on every device. Photos of certificates, mark sheets, identity cards and signed letters are the usual examples.

This tool takes ordinary image files and places each one on its own page of a PDF. It does not change the picture itself, apart from the quality setting you choose.

Step by step

Creating your PDF

  1. Add the images. Select many at once. They appear as a list with a small preview of each.
  2. Put them in order. Use the arrows to move a page up or down, and the turn button if a picture is sideways.
  3. Choose the layout. Pick A4, Letter or Fit To Image, and a margin.
  4. Pick the quality. High keeps every detail, Small File makes the PDF lighter.
  5. Download. Press Download PDF and the file is saved to your device.
Page layout

Choosing the page size and margin

A4 is the standard in India and most of the world. Letter is the common size in the United States and Canada. Each picture is scaled to fit inside the page and centred, and wide pictures automatically get a landscape page so nothing is shrunk more than needed.

Fit To Image makes every page exactly the shape of its picture, which suits screenshots and long receipts. Margins give a little white border around the picture. Choose None for a full-bleed scan, or Small when you plan to print and staple.

File size

Keeping the PDF small

A PDF made from phone photos can easily reach many megabytes, because each photo is large. The quality setting helps. High keeps pictures sharp and is best for documents you will print. Medium reduces the size of large photos and is a good all-round choice. Small File shrinks them further for uploads that have a tight limit.

If a site demands a specific size, such as 200 KB or 1 MB, choose Small File first. If the PDF is still too big, use the image resizer to bring each picture to a smaller size, then build the PDF again.

Scanning tips

Taking good document photos

  • Use daylight. Place the paper on a flat, plain surface near a window.
  • Shoot from straight above. A tilted phone makes the page look like a trapezoid.
  • Fill the frame. Get close, but keep all four corners of the paper in view.
  • Avoid shadows. Your hand or phone should not cast a shadow on the page.
  • Keep text readable. If you can read it comfortably on your screen, the PDF will be fine.
Privacy

Your documents stay on your device

Documents are often personal, so everything here runs inside your browser. The pictures are never uploaded to our servers and we never see them. The PDF is built on your device and handed to you as a download. If you share it afterwards, delete the copies from chat apps when you are done.

Troubleshooting

If something looks wrong

  • A page is sideways. Use the turn button on that page and download again.
  • The PDF is too large. Choose Small File, or shrink the pictures first.
  • A picture will not load. Make sure it is a JPG, PNG or WEBP. Photos in HEIC format need our HEIC to JPG converter first.
  • The margin looks too big. Choose None or Small, or pick Fit To Image.
